Some writers simply tell stories, while others create worlds filled with faith, courage, and the quiet strength of becoming your true self. Today, I’m happy to introduce Christina Weigand. She’s a writer, a wife, a mother of four, and a Nana to five. Her books combine young adult fantasy with biblical themes and a sense of history.

Christina has been writing most of her life and began pursuing it seriously more than twenty-five years ago during a pivotal season of change. Her storytelling reflects her love of classic fantasy authors like J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, yet her voice is distinctly her own. She gravitates toward themes of good versus evil, coming of age, discovering one’s voice, and growing into faith.

Her YA Christian fantasy trilogy—Palace of the Twelve Pillars, Palace of the Three Crosses, and Sanctuary of Nine Dragons—began with a simple premise: a boy who wakes up to discover he is both a prince and a wizard. As she explored his story, an entire family history unfolded, expanding into a sweeping saga of legacy, calling, and destiny.

When she’s not writing, Christina serves actively in her local church and helps young readers develop a love of storytelling through writing groups. Her advice to aspiring authors is straightforward and steadfast: don’t give up—show up every day and do the work.

Let’s step into the Dragon’s Lair and meet the heart behind the stories.

Interview with Christia Weigand

How long have you been writing, and what first inspired you to start?

I feel like I have been writing my whole life, but got serious about it 25 years ago after losing a job and giving birth to my youngest daughter.

What genre do you write—and what genres do you personally love to read?

It’s a mish-mash of young adult, historical, and biblical fantasy.

Who are some of your favorite authors or books that have shaped you as a writer?

Since my main focus is fantasy, I would have to say J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis.

AUTHOR NOTE: J.R.R. Tolkien is also one of my favorite authors, and his The Lord of the Rings inspired me to write Escala’s Wish.

For readers meeting you for the first time, how would you describe your writing style and the themes you gravitate toward?

I like to explore first good vs evil. After that coming of age. Explore people gaining their voices, finding faith.

What’s the story behind your current book or series—what drew you into that world or these characters?

I was taking a novel writing course. My project for the course was about a boy named Airyn who woke up one morning to discover he was a prince and a wizard. As I worked on Airyn’s story, I realized I wanted to know his backstory, how he got to that place. Hence, his parents and uncle were born and took over. The series became about their journey, and Airyn’s story from that writing course appears in the third book.

Which character in your latest book surprised you the most during the writing process?

Prince/King/Wizard Brandan

Do you have a favorite scene in your current book? What makes it stand out to you?

I love what happens at King Theodric’s funerals. The first one I wrote was one of the first scenes I wrote. It just took hold of me. I loved how the king’s sons reacted to and moved on from their stories.

Every writer has their own rhythm—what does your writing routine look like on a good day?

I like to write first thing in the morning. I have an online writing group I meet with, and if I’m in the zone, I write and work on any of the four books I’m currently writing.

Was there a moment while writing this book when everything suddenly clicked (or when you almost threw the manuscript across the room)?

It has been a few years since I wrote the series, so I find it difficult to remember.

If you could give one piece of advice to new or aspiring writers, what would you tell them?

Don’t give up no matter what anyone says. Show up every day, sit in the chair, and do the work.

What are you currently working on, and what can readers expect from you next?

Another series that starts during the ministry of Jesus and will follow with different times in Christian history. Not sure when it will be published, as the first book, Dragon Disciples: Resurrection, is being shopped to agents and seeking the right fit.

How do you stay motivated or creative when the writing gets tough?

This is a tough one. Currently, I have five projects in different stages. When one stumps me, I move to another until that one stumps me, and then I move to another. Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of that.

Where can readers follow you online and keep up with your future books?

You can follow Christian at Dragon Lair
