One of the most exciting parts of bringing Escala’s Wish to life has been auditioning narrators for the upcoming audiobook. Over the past couple of weeks, I listened to more than twenty-five auditions—many from incredibly talented voice actors who brought their own flavor, emotion, and creativity to the sample script.
But one performer rose above the rest.
Tomorrow, once the paperwork is officially signed, I’ll be revealing the name of the narrator who will bring Wigfrith—the swaggering, ego-heavy, stage-loving gnome bard—to life. For now, I can share this much:
He’s a British improv comedian and actor with razor-sharp comedic timing. The moment I heard his audition, something clicked. His delivery struck that rare balance of charm, wit, and storytelling magic that instantly reminded me of Cary Elwes as Westley in The Princess Bride—a perfect fit, considering this novel’s narrator is very much in that tradition: dramatic, humorous, and just a little too aware of his own brilliance.
In a story told through a storyteller, you need someone who can truly perform, shift into multiple character voices, and make you feel like you’re sitting in a tavern listening to an outrageous tale being spun just for you. This narrator nails it.
Contracts are underway, and I can’t wait to share his name with you tomorrow.
The Escala’s Wish audiobook is on track for a late-January release, and based on the audition alone… it’s going to be something special.
