Kirkus is known for being one of the toughest. They don’t hand out praise lightly and are willing to publish blunt criticism when a book doesn’t work. That’s why a strong Kirkus review is considered a meaningful mark of quality by librarians, publishers, and booksellers.
Since I had already received a strong review from BookLife (see my last blog post)—the second most prestigious literary review outlet—I was anxiously waiting for Kirkus, the gold standard in professional reviews, hoping for that one-two punch as I head into library convention season. I’ve entered five library festivals and conventions scheduled for this spring, so the timing could not have been more important.
That’s why I am absolutely thrilled that Escala’s Wish not only avoided being shredded, but received a very good review from Kirkus.
Next up are BlueInk later in January and Foreword Review in their Romantasy magazine issue in February.
